Proj Des and Implementation
Hostme
Hostme is going to provide better service in restaurants for customers to find tables for themselves. Restaurants currently hire hosts to handle all walk-in customers, but this simple process is bound to make mistakes. When the restaurant isn't full, hosts take customers to their table; when it is full, customers leave their contact information and wait until being informed that a table is available. There might be information gaps between back and forth communications.

00 CURRENT PROBLEM IN BUSY RESTAURANT
FOR CUSTOMER
When a restaurant is full, they sit outside wondering how long they are going to wait. They might ask other restaurants for available tables. They might leave going shopping then come back. Restaurants might lose customers due to these uncertainties.
FOR HOST
This position requires high attention and outstanding memory, he/she needs to arrange everyone’s seat, make sure all groups are seated correctly in the right order. Also, they have to calm the customers when they feel impatient. When it is busy, mistakes accidentally happen.
FOR OWNER
Long waiting time represents high reputation of the restaurant, hence, this waiting time also increases customer’s expectation of food. However, most of the time the food doesn’t quite meet the expectations they had.
In short, restaurant need a system which allows customers to be self-seated. If all tables are not available then customers provide contact information. The system auto-sends notifications to inform customers that their seats are ready.
01 GOAL
SAVE TIME
Estimate waiting time so customers can arrange their plan.
EFFICIENCY
Auto-sending notification can help restaurants focus on food quality.
SAVE MONEY
This system replaces the need for hosts. Reduce personnel cost.
03 DESIGN CONCEPT
Install sensors directly above customers, these sensors are going to detect the status of seats. Once a seat is occupied, a timer starts counting. Also, the “no vacancy” signal will be sent to system which shows a red light on the screen at the entrance of restaurant. When seats are available, red lights turn green.

05 SKETCH
06 STORYBOARD
I use two colors as my main visual. Red represents problems and after implementing Hostme, the color changes to blue, which represents problem solved.
